Family policies
What families ask before the first day.
Photos of your child
We ask your written permission before we share any photo of your child, on this site, in newsletters or on social media, and you can change your answer at any time. We never put a child's name with a photo, and the photos on this site are examples until we replace them with our own.
When to keep your child home
A child with a fever, or who was sick in the night, stays home until the next morning. A guide calls a parent when a child is unwell at school, and the office sends a note home when something is going around.
Drop-off and pickup
The core day ends at 2:45 p.m. Cars come around the gravel loop, and a guide walks each child to the right car. Only the adults on the family's pickup list may collect a child, and we ask to see ID until we know you. Extended-day children are collected from the porch.
Closures for weather and holidays
The school closes for the winter and spring breaks and the usual holidays. Boone gets snow, so on a snowy morning the school may close or open late. We text families before 6:30 a.m.
Absences and late arrival
Tell the office the same morning if a child will miss school. A guide keeps the child's place in the work cycle, and missed lessons are given again on return.
Leaving the program
We ask families to tell the office in writing before the end of a term. The enrollment agreement explains how a term in progress is handled.
Screens and phones
Children do not use phones or tablets during the school day. An adolescent who brings a phone leaves it in the basket at the door and collects it at pickup. Research starts with books, and a guide sits beside a child who uses a computer.
What to wear and bring
There is no uniform. Children wear clothes they can kneel, climb and garden in, and sturdy shoes. Each child keeps a pair of indoor shoes and a rain jacket at school.
Meals, snacks and allergies
Families send lunch and a water bottle. Tell us about allergies at the visit; we ask privately once you enroll, and the guides keep a plan for each child.
