Questions families ask

Families visit, apply, hear from the school in March and sign an enrollment agreement in April. A child meets a guide in the room for a short visit before the school decides. The steps are on the admissions page, with the months they fall in.

Open houses are in October and January, and observation mornings run most Wednesdays from October to March. If those do not fit, ask the office and we will find a morning.

Yes. An observation morning does not require an application. You sit at the edge of a room, see the children at work, and talk with the head of school afterward. Children are welcome to come along.

It is the long stretch of the morning, about three hours, when children choose their work from the shelf and a guide gives small lessons. Nobody rings a bell in the middle of it.

The guides and the family talk first, and the child spends mornings in the next room before the move. The same materials are on the shelves, a little further along.

Each room's class size is on the programs page, by grade. The rooms are mixed-age, so a child is among the youngest, then the oldest.

No. Children join the lower room from any earlier school, and the guides introduce the materials one at a time. Tell us about your child at the visit.

Tuition is set by the room and billed by the year, the term or the month. Financial aid is available, and the tuition page explains how to apply. The office gives the figures at every visit.

Families send lunch. There is no uniform, only clothes for kneeling, climbing and gardening. Phones stay off during the school day, and the family policies page has the details.

Early arrival is open from 7:45 a.m., and extended days run until 5:15 p.m. on Monday to Thursday. Each is billed apart, for the days a family uses.
